Channel steel is a long steel bar with a concave cross-section. It belongs to carbon structural steel and mechanical steel for construction and is a complex section steel with a groove shape. Channel steel is mainly used for building structures, curtain wall engineering, mechanical equipment and vehicle manufacturing. Channel steel requires good welding, riveting performance and comprehensive mechanical properties in use. The raw material billet for producing channel steel is carbon steel or low alloy steel billet with carbon content not exceeding 0.25%. The finished channel steel is formed by hot processing, normalizing or hot rolling. Its specifications are expressed by waist height (h)leg width (b)waist thickness (d) in millimeters, such as 100485.3, which means channel steel with waist height of 100 mm, leg width of 48 mm and waist thickness of 5.3 mm, or 10# channel steel. Channel steels with the same waist height have several different leg widths and waist thicknesses, which need to be distinguished by adding a b c on the right side of the model number, such as 25#a 25#b 25#c.
